Attempted sexual assault of elderly woman; man charged in Newtown

Police have charged a man over allegedly attempting to sexually assault an elderly woman during a break and enter in Sydney’s inner west. , NSW Police say>

About 7.30pm on Sunday 26 August 2018, police will allege a man forced entry to a home in Newtown.

The man allegedly grabbed an 80-year-old woman and placed her in a headlock before attempting to sexually assault her.

The woman allegedly fought back and the man fled the house.

She suffered injuries to her hands and legs and was treated at the scene.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 30-year-old man was arrested outside a unit in Enmore Road, Newtown, about 5.30pm yesterday (Friday 31 August 2018).

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with assault with act of indecency, aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence - use violence, and aggravated sexual assault – break and enter with intent.

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 1 September 2018).
