AusBiotech Joins Austrade's Trade Network

AusBiotech welcomes the Australian Government's announcement, made by the Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon Don Farrell, confirming AusBiotech has been selected to join Austrade's newly established Trade Diversification Network.

The announcement recognises the critical role the life sciences sector plays in Australia's economy and trade, and the importance of sustained, coordinated support to help Australian innovators succeed internationally in a rapidly changing global trade environment.

As a member of the Trade Diversification Network, AusBiotech will work in collaboration with Austrade to design and deliver activities that support Australian life sciences innovators as they scale, seek new global partnerships and capitalise on new global growth opportunities.

The Trade Diversification Network — consisting of 40 national peak bodies — is the delivery model for the Australian Government's $50 million Accessing New Markets Initiative (ANMI). ANMI is a partnership between government and industry, building on the established capabilities of national peak industry bodies alongside Austrade's extensive global network.

Australia's life sciences industry — spanning biotechnology, medical technology, diagnostics and digital health — is highly export-oriented and globally connected. Through its participation in the Network, AusBiotech will support the sector to strengthen international engagement, and accelerate opportunities for future international partnerships.

AusBiotech's inclusion in the Network builds on its existing international partnership activities and ongoing engagement with Austrade. Late last year, AusBiotech announced Tamlyn O'Connor as its new Head of Global Trade and Partnerships, jointly funded via Austrade's TradeStart program. Tamlyn's role directly supports export and global partnership ready life sciences companies.

Quotes from Rebekah Cassidy, AusBiotech CEO:

"Life sciences is an inherently global industry and diversified international partnership is critical to its success.

"As the national peak body for the life sciences sector, AusBiotech is delighted to be selected to join the newly formed Trade Diversification Network. My team and I look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Austrade and working with them to deliver practical, targeted programs designed to lift the profile of Australia's life sciences innovators and support them as they navigate global markets and unlock new export opportunities.

"Australia's life sciences innovators are developing world-class solutions for the health of people globally. We are pleased to represent them as part of this important national initiative."

Quotes from the Hon Don Farrell, Federal Minister for Trade and Tourism:

"Australia is a trading nation, and we want to see more Australian exporters doing more trade with new and emerging partners across the globe in places like the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

"The Trade Diversification Network is a great example of government and industry working together to achieve a common goal: seeing Australian businesses diversify, grow, and build resilience."
