Aussie-India Space Project Targets Climate Change

Dept of Industry, Science and Resources

Australia and India are taking their technology partnership to new heights.

The Australian Government is backing the Australian space industry's development of new technology that will be part of an India-led mission to address environmental challenges and climate change.

Almost $2.7 million will be available to develop an Australian-made payload for inclusion in the Indian Space Research Organisation's G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation.

The project will have an Australian industry lead with several Australian and Indian partners. It will deepen space collaboration between our two nations, create opportunities in a rapidly expanding global market, and contribute to addressing real world environmental challenges.

This investment builds on $18 million injected by the Australian Government into three collaborative space projects between Australia and India in 2024.

Those projects are focused on helping the net zero transition, boosting advanced manufacturing and industrialisation, and advancing artificial intelligence - and are already creating new high-tech jobs in Australia.

Australia and India have a long history of collaboration in space, including Australia helping track India's historic landing on the South Pole of the Moon in 2023 and supporting its upcoming Gaganyaan human space flight mission.
