Well, this has been a very successful meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum here in the Solomon Islands. We have made real advances in our common interests. We are all members of the Pacific family and it's important that we cooperate on economic issues, on national security and in dealing with the challenge of climate change. The decisions now to establish formally the Pacific Resilience Facility in order to advance the need to mitigate and deal with the challenge of climate change by building infrastructure and the shift to renewable energy will make an enormous difference and has been welcomed here. In addition to that the declaration of the Pacific region as an Ocean of Peace has been an important initiative from Fiji but adopted across the board. In addition the declaration my Pacific nations that they want Australia and the Pacific to host the Conference of the Parties meeting on climate change at the end of next year in an important show of support for Australia's leadership and for the important role that the Pacific has given that Pacific Island nations, for many of the climate change is an existential threat. That's why action on climate change is the entry fee to credibility in this region.
JOURNALIST: Prime Minister, will you break the trust of Pacific leaders if you approve the North West Shelf gas project?
PRIME MINISTER: What we'll continue to do is act in Australia's interests but also in the interests of engaging in action on climate change. We know that gas has an important role to play in the transition. We'll continue to make decisions based upon our domestic law and the Environment Minister will be making a decision in the coming period.
JOURNALIST: And last one, Penny Wong says we are in a permanent state of contest with China in the Pacific. Are we winning?
PRIME MINISTER: There is strategic competition in the Pacific and what we do is treat Pacific Island nations with respect. We're transformational rather than transactional, and that puts us in good stead. We have been warmly received here in Pacific Island nations. The fact that they are so supportive of Australia and the Pacific's joint bid to host a climate change conference shows the high regard in which we are put. Thank you.
