Aussie Signallers Honoured At Anzac Day March

Current and former Australian Army signallers will gather at the Australian War Memorial to mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals (RA Sigs) this Anzac Day.

The RA Sigs was formed officially in 1925, and has evolved into a group of highly technical specialists who provide communications, electronic warfare and cyber capabilities support for the ADF's operations around the world.

Although RA Sigs will lead the march, individual participants will also take part in the Anzac Day RSL (ACT Branch) Veterans' March.

"For 100 years, the Royal Australian Corps of Signals have been innovators, starting with radio transmissions in the 1920s though to cutting-edge cyber warfare today," Director Australian War Memorial Matt Anderson said.

"We are encouraging current and former members of RA Sigs to march or simply attend the Australian War Memorial this Anzac Day, and to receive the acknowledgment they have so richly deserved."

ACT RSL CEO Kimberley Hicks said joining the march would provide a unique opportunity for veterans and their families to honour military service.

"Current and former Australian Defence Force, Commonwealth, or Allied force veterans, along with their relatives, are eligible to march, even if they are not part of a formal group or association," she said.

"Marching on Anzac Day is a tribute to those who served and sacrificed.

"We want families and individuals to be part of this national commemorative service and veterans' march in Canberra. Thousands of current serving Defence members in the capital continue to make sacrifices for our nation, and we encourage them to take part as well."

The service will commence at 9.30am on the parade ground of the Australian War Memorial, followed by the veterans' march and an address delivered by Major Angela Uphill, a physiotherapist from the 2nd Health Brigade.
