Australia appoints new ambassador to Kuwait

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Today I announce the appointment of Ms Melissa Kelly as Australia's next Ambassador to Kuwait.

Australia and Kuwait's friendship is underpinned by strong trade and investment ties and a commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.

Kuwait is one of Australia's largest sources of investment from the Middle East and a significant export market for Australian wheat, barley and beef.

Ms Kelly is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently First Secretary, Australian Embassy, Riyadh.

She has previously served overseas in Jordan and Pakistan.

Ms Kelly will be Australia's first female Ambassador to Kuwait.

I thank former Ambassador Jonathan Gilbert for his contributions to advancing Australia's interests in Kuwait since 2018.
