Australia-China High Level Talks On Pacific

Australia and China held the 8th bilateral High Level Talks on the Pacific on 25 June 2025. The virtual talks were co-chaired by Mr Craig Chittick, Deputy Head of the Office of the Pacific, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Mr Qian Bo, Special Envoy for Pacific Island Countries Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.

Officials exchanged views on a range of regional priorities, including climate change adaptation and resilience, security, policing, fisheries and maritime issues, and economic development across the Pacific.

Australian officials reinforced Australia's abiding commitment to the Pacific Islands Forum and the region's security architecture. They emphasised that the Pacific has the collective responsibility and capability to meet our region's security needs.

The Talks were last held in 2015, with Foreign Ministers agreeing to recommence these at the Foreign and Strategic Dialogue in 2022.
