Richard Marles, Deputy Prime Minister: Minister Sjafrie, Minister Sugiono it is such a delight to have both of you here and on behalf of Penny and I, we welcome you. We're meeting today at this annual 2+2 meeting between our two countries at a time when, I think it's fair to say, the relationship between Australia and Indonesia has never been closer, which is so important, I think, for both countries. But we, from an Australian perspective, are deeply grateful for that. We are because we also meet at a time where the world is complex, where it's volatile, where it is ever changing, and it is a moment to be close to friends. And one only needs to look at the map to understand the significance of both of our countries to each other. You know, Indonesia was profoundly important to Australia and we are, we hope, to Indonesia as well. There's a sense in which the kind of historic destiny, I think of our two countries, where Indonesia is able to be there at our northern frontier here, we are able to provide strategic depth for Indonesia - that is an idea which is now being realised by our two governments as we work more closely together. The Defence Cooperation Agreement that we signed last year is a really good example of that, but we are working more closely together across the board' in terms of our economies, in terms of security, in terms of our shared borders and we are really, really grateful for that. We very much look forward to the conversations today. We look forward to how we can take the momentum that we have under President Prabowo and Prime Minister Albanese, two very close friends, to really institutionalise for our two nations the sort of relationship which is so important for us to have. So it really is a delight to have you both here. We really look forward to today and you are both most welcome.
Penny Wong, Foreign Minister: Selamat datang. It's so good to have you both here. Thank you so much for making this journey to Australia, and we are delighted to be able to return some of the warm hospitality that we have received, although I don't think that we have the white horses so… There is no more important partner than Indonesia for Australia and as Pak Prabowo has said, Australia is not just a neighbour, but a strategic partner. That is how we conceive of this relationship. That is our ambition for this relationship. And we share many common interests; we share economic interests, we share an interest in a region which is peaceful, stable and prosperous, and together, our two countries are working to assure that, in a time as the Deputy Prime Minister said, that is quite uncertain and turbulent. We are committing today to a number of new initiatives that deepen our cooperation. We're really pleased that we will be in a position to progress the maritime cooperation package. We're really pleased that we'll be announcing a partnership on peace and stability to further our work on conflict prevention, such an important part of ASEAN's role in which Indonesia has been a leader. We're increasing our cooperation in the Pacific. And we both share a commitment to breaking the cycle of violence in the Middle East. We both know how much work is needed to be done to assure a peaceful future for the people of the Middle East, and we are pleased that we have the opportunity to work together on the Palestinian Authority's commitments, particularly in the areas of education and schooling. Ministers, you are most welcome in our country and we're very appreciative of this opportunity. Terima kasih.
Sugiono, Indoesia Foreign Minister: Thank you, honourable Richard Marles, honourable Penny Wong. It's always grateful to come back to Canberra and thank you for hosting this 2+2 meeting and the warm welcome, despite of the chill this morning, but it was actually a warm welcome for both of us and our delegation. As our President mentioned it is of our national interest to be close to our neighbours. And I think Australia is also a strategic partner for Indonesia for many, many years and historically, we're very close. And I think this meeting is also very instrumental in strengthening the cooperation and collaboration between both of our countries. And during the last annual Leaders' Meeting in May, President Prabowo has also reaffirmed his commitment to elevating the bilateral relations between Indonesia and Australia and our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with its renewed plan of action, signifies the broad range of cooperation that we will do and we can do, not only in bilateral level, but also the regional level. As two democracies that share a lot of common interest and active role in region and globally, this 2+2 meeting has been strategic in coordinating our close collaboration and one of the fields that Minister Wong mentioned also in responding to the very dynamic global situation. And bilaterally, of course, this is also to enhance our defence and foreign relations sectors, especially our contribution to nurturing peace and stability in the region. And again, I would like to thank you very much for receiving us.
Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Indoesia Defence Minister: Minister Marles, Minister Wong - Terima kasih. Always good to be back again to Canberra. This is my second time, first time with President Prabowo when he was still minister of defence here. Pak Prabowo reaffirmed again the connection with our relationship between Indonesia and Australia. It is good now to enhance our close cooperation as neighbours. So today is the first time 2+2 for us and I think after the general election, we would like to celebrate Richard Marles and also all the Ministers. And also secondly, this time during the 2+2 we'd like to enhance our relation, especially between leaders to leaders, people to people contact - because people to people contact is very important. Just now, I received my close friend, Major General Duncan Lewis, and I always look forward to see my friends. And we'd like to maintain our people to people contact in connection with the leaders to leaders contact between Indonesia and Australia. We look forward to having a productive discussion today, and we thank you very much for hosting us.
Deputy Prime Minister: So your second time here in this role, Minister Sjafrie, but by no means your second time to Canberra. So this afternoon, Minister Sjafrie and I going to Duntroon, which is where you were- where you did some of your training a long time ago, with President Prabowo.
Minister Sjafrie: 50 years ago, I was here - as a sergeant major cadet. I come here again with the Minister of Defence.
