Australia's partnership with the United States has been further strengthened through enhanced collaboration in the space domain.
Chief of Space and Cyber Lieutenant General Susan Coyle met with United States Space Force Chief of Space Operations General B. Chance Saltzman in Canberra for a series of space-related engagements.
"Both nations understand the importance of building a trusted and integrated partnership in the space domain," Lieutenant General Coyle said.
This commitment was reinforced through the signing of a Statement of Intent (SoI) by Lieutenant General Coyle and General Saltzman, outlining Australia's and the United States' intent to deepen cooperation in military space operations.
The SoI recognises that space‑based capabilities are foundational to modern conflict and critical to maintaining a resilient, secure and operationally effective space domain.
"The agreement reflects our collective commitment to advancing military space collaboration and ensuring our forces are ready to operate effectively in the space domain," Lieutenant General Coyle said.
General Saltzman also attended the inaugural Space Initial Employment Training graduation. Graduates from the space operations officer and space operations specialist courses are the first members of the Australian Defence Force to complete this training.
"This marks a significant milestone in the development of a skilled, professional and interoperable space workforce," Lieutenant General Coyle said.
"These graduates are setting the standard for space operations within the ADF and strengthening our ability to operate alongside trusted partners in an increasingly complex and contested space domain."
During General Saltzman's visit to Australia, he immersed himself in Australian culture, including a ceremonial welcome at Russell Offices in Canberra, a visit to the Australian War Memorial and a Last Post ceremony, and an AFL game.
The visit ultimately reinforced the shared commitment of Australia and the United States to deepening collaboration in military space operations to enhance collective capability, resilience and operational effectiveness in the space domain.
