Australian FM statement on cost of assisted departures from Wuhan

The Government has decided not to require a contribution for assisted departures from Wuhan.

The department provided incorrect information to the Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs that charging for assisted departures is standard procedure. In 2007, following the evacuation from Lebanon in 2006, the department sought contributions to the value of $840 from a number of Australians whose departure had been assisted. No contributions were sought in 2011 for the evacuation from Egypt.

The department regrets this error.
