Australian Poetry Slam comes to Warrnambool

Write a revolution. Write to speak. Write to be heard in Australia's largest performance poetry competition!

The Warrnambool Library has been chosen as just one of three regional Victorian venues to stage a heat of the Australian Poetry Slam (APS).

Hosted by Ren Alessandra, 2020 APS Champion, poets have two minutes to perform their original work; no props, no costumes, no music. Judges are randomly chosen from the audience, the winner of the Warrnambool heat will receive a $100 gift voucher from Collins Booksellers and the two highest-scoring poets will have the chance to complete in the Victorian state final hosted by the State Library of Victoria.

The heat, on Thursday, September 30, from 7pm, will be an online event livestreamed through the Library website.

Local poets, performers, spoken-word artists, lyric novices, hip-hop artists, of all levels of experience are welcome to compete.

On Monday, September 27, before the heat, Ren will hold a poetry slam workshop for young adults (aged 13 to 18 years) from 2pm to 4pm.
