Australian Standards for Export of Livestock update

Department of Agriculture and Water Resources

An updated version of the Australian Standards for the Export of Livestock, ASEL 3.2, is now available on the department's website.

The ASEL sets the requirements for exporting livestock from Australia by sea and air. The standards outline the minimum animal health and welfare conditions exporters must meet.

The update focuses on reducing ambiguity and improving readability and usability of the standards.

Changes should support industry operations whilst maintaining animal welfare standards.

ASEL 3.2 changes reflect stakeholder feedback received since the introduction of ASEL 3.0 in November 2020 and from public consultation on the draft ASEL 3.2 during September and October 2021.

Complex issues that were unable to be addressed in the update have been recorded for engagement and review in separate processes.

The department will run a series of information webinars in November 2021 to inform ASEL-users of the changes and provide an opportunity for questions.
