Australian support for vaccination efforts in Vietnam

  • Senator the Hon Zed Seselja, Minister for International Development and the Pacific

Australia will support Vietnam's national vaccine rollout by providing 1.5 million AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses in 2021 as part of our commitment to assist close friends and partners in the region.

These doses will complement Australia's existing $40 million package through which we are working in partnership with Vietnam on its COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Our assistance includes funding for additional doses to be procured through Australia's agreement with UNICEF, vaccine delivery support and technical advice.

This contribution is part of Australia's commitment to share at least 20 million doses with our Indo-Pacific neighbours by mid-2022, to support the health security and economic recovery of the region.

Australia's $130 million contribution to the COVAX Advance Market Commitment is also providing critical access to COVID-19 vaccines for our region. So far, Vietnam has received more than 2.4 million doses through the COVAX scheme, with more to follow.

We are also working with Japan, the United States and India to boost vaccine supply through the Quad Vaccine Partnership, including $100 million for support in Southeast Asia.
