Over the weekend two Victorian quarries were showcased as delivering some of the best progressive rehabilitation in the state.
Mawsons Concrete and Quarries in Glenrowan and Baxter's Concrete and Quarries in West Wodonga have been awarded the Construction Material Processing Association's (CMPA) Best Practice in Progressive Rehabilitation Award.
Sponsored by Resources Victoria, the awards encourage excellent quarry rehabilitation across the state.
Across categories for small and large quarries, the award winners showed a strong link between their progressive site rehabilitation, operational decisions and continuous improvement.
Mawsons Concrete and Quarries took out the award for large quarries after linking their operational activities to good site rehabilitation outcomes and exceeding native vegetation offset requirements.
In being given the award for smaller quarries, Baxter Concrete and Quarries was recognised for their approach to ensuring rehabilitation success in a flood prone environment.
Progressive site rehabilitation is an essential requirement for operating a quarry in Victoria and a key part of the sector's broad social licence.
Inspections conducted by Resources Victoria during 2025 showed that many operators need to do more to progressively rehabilitate their sites. In sponsoring these awards, Resources Victoria is encouraging best practice across quarry sector.
