ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC:
RIVER LEVEL RISES AND AREAS OF FLOODING ARE OCCURRING IN THE TODD RIVER
Moderate to heavy rainfall over the upper catchment from around 0400 hrs, with 41mm recorded at Bond Springs and 9mm at Upper Bond Springs.
The water level at Bond Springs rose 0.5m to 1.5m at around 0730 hrs and is now 1.3 m and falling.
This peak began arriving at Wigley Gorge around 10 00 hrs and is likely to arrive at Anzac Oval around 12 00 hrs resulting in a upper Category B or possible Category C flow.
The water level at Wigley Gorge (Todd River) is currently 2.32 m and is rising.
The peak flow has not arrived yet at Todd River at Anzac Oval which is currently at 1.27m (Category A) and falling.
The following causeways are closed:
• Schwarz Crescent
• Wills Terrace
• Tuncks Road
• Taffy Pick
• Palm Circuit
Access from Desert Springs and Mt Johns is via the Territory Generation access road.
Additional Information:
The catchment remains saturated, and river flows are likely to react rapidly if high intensity rainfall occurs.
Bureau of Meteorology Forecast:
High chance of showers, most likely during this afternoon and evening. The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe with heavy rain which may lead to flash flooding.
Alice Springs is slightly to the west of the area of a Severe Weather Warning issued at 04 47 hrs for heavy rainfall (6 hour rainfall totals exceeding 50 mm possible, especially from midday).
