Several safety measures are in place at NSW schools, with the NSW Government investing $18.5 million in 300 new school crossing supervisors at 80 locations across NSW.
This is in addition to signage, road markings and flashing lights that alert motorists when they are entering a school zone.
Failure to slow down or give-way to buses can result in heavy fines and demerit points.
Higher fines and demerit points also apply to certain driving and parking offences committed within school zones.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said road safety is everyone's responsibility.
"It is important that motorists slow down and pay special attention when travelling near schools," Mr Toole said.
