The message is loud and clear - Now is the time for parents and carers to ensure children are ready to return to school next week, with Term 3 beginning Tuesday 15 July.
Every child has the right to an education, and school attendance is the key to unlocking brighter futures.
Going to school every day helps children build friendships, stay happier and healthier, and learn the essential skills that lead to future jobs and opportunities. Strong school attendance builds stronger communities.
Chief Executive of the Department of Education and Training, Susan Bowden, said returning to school is essential to ensure every child receives the education they deserve.
"As a parent I know how precious time with children is during the holidays and how special the Territory is to explore," she said.
"However, now is the time to prepare for school and make sure our children attend every school day, so they don't miss out on learning vital skills that set them up for life.
"Parents and carers must take responsibility to ensure their children are in school, and now is the time to ask for help if you need it," Ms Bowden said.
Support is available via the school or the School Attendance and Support team, who can assist with enrolling children into school, school attendance, options on flexible education, transitions between schools, and referrals to support services.
Families are encouraged to call the team on 1800 206 317 for support. When families know that children will not be able to attend school for the day, it's important they let the school know each day.
Throughout the school holidays, School Attendance Officers have been busy working closely with children and families at community and sporting events, and at local shopping centres, ensuring students continue to be engaged and are ready to start Term 3 strong.
Now is the time to reach out, prepare, and ensure every Territory child is ready to walk into the classroom on Tuesday 15 July.
