Backing Australian Music Events

The Albanese Labor Government is helping local artists and providing funding to two major music discovery events as part of the Revive Live program.

A new national contemporary music platform, The Next Up Music Awards, will receive funding to strengthen the connection between music education, live performance and industry pathways for the next generation.

The awards will welcome entrants from across the country, culminating in a live performance event at Carriageworks in Sydney on 28 January 2027.

Also designed to help discover new artists, Sounds Atlas, will receive funding as part of the Wollongong City Festival to showcase the depth and diversity of Australian music.

Held across 30 days the festival gives audiences a chance to see artists at performances across the city and at events in Thirroul, Port Kembla and Bulli.

Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, said the events gave a leg up to new artists.

"Going to gigs and experiencing live music should be available to every Australian. It's important for the industry and for up and comers that that tradition can continue.

"Revive Live is giving artists a chance to be heard by a whole new audience of music lovers and create a career pathway because of their passion for music."

Established in the 2024-25 Budget, Revive Live aligns with the Government's National Cultural Policy, Revive, which recognises the Australian music sector as a vibrant part of our arts and cultural landscape.

Through Revive, the Government last year established Music Australia within Creative Australia, with new funding of more than $69 million to support and promote the Australian contemporary music industry to increase discoverability and develop markets and audiences.
