Backing community health with 120 new defibrillators for Hatzolah Melbourne

Liberal Party Victoria

Local communities will be better supported in health emergencies under a new commitment announced today by the Victorian Liberals and Nationals.

Hatzolah Melbourne is a volunteer-based Community Emergency Response Team that operates within the Emergency Medical Response program of Ambulance Victoria.

In a typical year, Hatzolah Melbourne attends 1,500 emergency calls for assistance across the Glen Eira community, a number which in recent times has almost doubled to 2,800 calls.

Despite this increased demand, Hatzolah Melbourne retains an average response time of under four minutes from dispatch to cardiac arrests - a credit to the outstanding work and dedication of this organisations volunteer teams.

To further strengthen work of Hatzolah Melbourne and support the chances of a successful patient outcome during a health emergency, a Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $200,000 for the purchase, installation and training for 120 defibrillators across community and sporting facilities within the City of Glen Eira and surrounding areas.

Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said backing community health was another of the Victorian Liberals and Nationals real solutions to end the health crisis.

"Backing local health solutions such as this is the best way to support communities to recover, rebuild and move forward in confidence."

"The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have real solutions to end the health crisis and ensure Victorians get the healthcare they need, when they need it."

Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and Member for Caulfield, David Southwick, said this positive announcement would mean healthier and safer local communities across Glen Eira and beyond.

"Residents across Glen Eira and surrounding areas understand and value the outstanding work done by Hatzolah Melbourne."

"These new defibrillators will give additional support to community and sporting facilities across our local area and mean better outcomes for those in need."

"This announcement backs in the outstanding work Hatzolah Melbourne continues to do and will mean healthier and safer communities across Glen Eira and beyond."
