Hawkesbury Nepean Landcare Network (HNLN) is currently supporting the Resilient Rivers for Resilient Platypus (RRRP) project, managed by Western Sydney University under a $1 million grant from the Federal Government's Urban Rivers and Catchment Program.
This critical initiative will provide new habitat for our iconic native species by establishing a network of 'platypus parks' along the Hawkesbury-Nepean River over the next three years.
HNLN has been supporting the RRRP program by facilitating more Land for Wildlife (LFW) assessments. The free LFW program helps private landowners to manage biodiversity and native habitat on their properties, making them eligible for a $2,000-per-year grant to help cover the cost of environmental restoration.
"By facilitating assessments for LFW, HNLN is getting more private landowners involved in platypus protection, giving them the information and support they need to restore riverbanks on their properties and contribute to the formation of new platypus parks." - Monique Bailey, LLC.
