Badly injured border collie recovers to find loving home with 81-year-old dog trainer

Jessica (formerly Lizzie) was just 10 months old when she came into the care of RSPCA South Australia. With her elbow so badly fractured Jessica could barely even hold her own weight, the young border collie was in dire need of medical attention.

Without surgery, there was a chance Jessica's bones could have fused, causing severe deformity in her elbow joint - and possibly a life of pain and discomfort.

Thankfully, because of the generosity of hundreds of wonderful animal-lovers like you, Jessica's $2,500 surgery and rehabilitation fee was completely covered by donations - amazing!

Jessica's surgery and recovery was a total success, giving this beautiful young woofer a chance for her happily ever after.

After a long road to recovery, Jessica was cleared for adoption.

That very same day, 81-year-old David spotted gorgeous Jessica at our Lonsdale shelter and decided he had to take her home forever.

What's more, David is a qualified dog trainer - the perfect owner for such an intelligent and active breed.

"I love my dogs. Especially border collies; they're top of the tree for me. I love taking them for a walk, taking them down to the park for a good run. It gets me out of the place," David says.

Seeing past Jessica's surgery scars, David fell totally in love with this beautiful dog's sunny disposition, sweet eyes and beautiful soul.

After renaming her from Lizzie to Jessica, David says his girl wasted no time getting comfortable and acquainted with her new surroundings.

Treated with a chicken schnitzel, a heap of cuddles and an early bedtime on her first night, Jessica felt right at home.

"She was on the lounge and at a quarter part eight she said: 'Well, that's me, I'm finished, I'm going to bed.' She only woke me up at 6.40am the next day, so she had a good night's sleep!" David says.

She's going got have a bonzer life with me, she's just marvellous."

We're absolutely thrilled to hear about Jessica's wonderful new life and want to thank each and every one of our generous donors - with your help, we've been able to give her the happy, care-free live she has always deserved.
