Banned Driver Nabbed 60km/h Over Limit in Walcha

A disqualified driver has been charged after being detected allegedly driving 60km/h above the speed limit in the state's west overnight.

Officers attached to Tamworth Traffic and Highway Patrol detected a sedan being driven east along Oxley Highway towards Walcha, about 6pm yesterday (Friday 30 May 2025), allegedly at 160km/h in a signposted 100km/h area.

A short time later, the vehicle stopped on Thee Street, Walcha, where police spoke to the driver and sole occupant, a 38-year-old woman.

She was subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive result to cannabis and methamphetamine. Further checks revealed her driver's licence was disqualified until September 2025.

Police will allege the woman refused to provide a secondary sample; she has now been issued a Field Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) for the offence of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and refuse or fail to provide oral fluid sample.

She is due to appear before Walcha Local Court on Friday 20 June 2025.

She was also issued an infringement notice for exceed speed more than 45km/h.
