Barellan Central School students, parents and staff are benefiting from the recently completed footpath adjacent to their school. The new footpath on the southern side of Mulga Street between Boree Street and Myall Street was proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with Narrandera Shire Council.

"We requested a footpath to be installed from the Boree and Mulga St corner in each direction, for students arriving and leaving school, and are pleased to see this latest path complete the project," said Principal Mr Paul Laing.

"The path complements the entrance to the school and includes the full width to the kerb in the bus zone area. Students regularly walk on the new path, it is getting plenty of use, and is very beneficial in wet weather."

The draft Narrandera Shire Active Transport Plan, currently on Public Exhibition, identifies additional facilities required to achieve a connected active transport network for Barellan including a footpath along Myall Street to connect the new path from the school with the main street.

Mayor Cr. Neville Kschenka is inviting the community to provide feedback on the draft plan.

"Walking and cycling, otherwise referred to as active transport, is environmentally friendly and good for your health not to mention the social and economic benefits. To achieve a connected, safe and well used active transport network, we need a plan to make active transport part of our everyday routines" he said.
