Bass Coast came alive with smiles, stories and slices of cake as community groups across the region marked National Volunteer Week 2025 with celebrations, warm cups of tea, and some very well-deserved recognition.
This year's theme, Connecting Communities, couldn't have felt more fitting. From pizza parties and brunches to garden lunches and gallery get-togethers, our local volunteers were showered with thanks for the powerful role they play in bringing people together and building stronger, connected communities.
Council was proud to support these events through a round of microgrants. Groups received up to $100 to host their own Volunteer Week activities. Here's a glimpse at the good vibes shared right across Bass Coast:
At PICAL, volunteer week was all about community spirit and cake - lots of cake! A group of local baking heroes including Michelle, Keitha, Pauline, Gea, Christine and Graeme served up an array of sweets to celebrate PICAL's 100-strong volunteer crew, whose combined efforts far outstrip the organisation's paid staffing. Island Ward Councillor, Cr Tracey Bell dropped by to say thank you and raise a cuppa to these tireless community champions.
