Bathurst Specialist Care Boosted by New Cardiology Head

Bathurst Health Service has boosted its senior medical workforce, with Dr Kanishka Kamaladasa appointed the new Head of Cardiology.

Dr Marco Metelo, Bathurst Health Service's Director of Medical Services, said Dr Kamaladasa's expertise and experience in cardiology is a huge gain for the Bathurst community, and will be based at Bathurst but part of the Southern Cardiology Network which also covers Orange.

"Dr Kamaladasa brings a wealth of experience with him and will be a wonderful addition to our senior team at Bathurst Health Service, which serves its local community with care and compassion," Dr Metelo said.

"Dr Kamaladasa will play an important role in ensuring Bathurst Health Service continues to meet the needs of the community into the future by supporting the development of our first Cardiology Service Plan.

"He brings extensive clinical and leadership expertise to the role, having previously worked as the Head of Cardiology in Dubbo, where he played a significant role in establishing its cardiology service in the region."

Jo Holden, Bathurst Health Service General Manager, said the appointment of Dr Kamaladasa is the result of a significant focus on recruitment to strengthen medical services in Bathurst.

"We are looking forward to welcoming more healthcare workers in 2024 to help us to continue to deliver exceptional healthcare to the Bathurst community," Ms Holden said.
