The Battery Breakthrough is a joint program of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
Australian businesses can apply for a share of $500 million in capital grants and production incentives. ARENA will deliver the Battery Breakthrough which aims to give targeted funding to boost battery manufacturing in Australia.
It will support:
- stationary renewable energy storage systems
- battery manufacturing using Australian critical minerals and resources
The Battery Breakthrough will strengthen economic resilience and enhance Australia's critical battery capabilities.
It is part of several initiatives to help grow Australian business and deliver a Future Made in Australia. The Battery Breakthrough complements the Industry Growth Program and the National Reconstruction Fund.
Battery Breakthrough objectives, guidelines and focus areas to guide applications are now available through ARENA. The breakthrough will accept submissions from August 2025.
