Bay Street Speed Cameras: Bayside

Bayside Council will write to the State Government and relevant road authorities to request the installation of a speed camera on Bay Street following a resolution at the Council Meeting on Wednesday 25 February.

Council has long advocated for increased speed enforcement measures along Bay Street to address ongoing incidents of speeding and car hooning.

Bay Street has experienced persistent issues with excessive speeding, reckless driving, and car hooning, creating significant safety concerns for residents and road users.

This behaviour increases the risk of serious accidents, noise disturbances, and harm to pedestrians and families in the area.

The installation of a speed camera would act as a strong deterrent, improve compliance with speed limits, and contribute to a safer community environment.

Advocacy to the State Government is necessary, as speed camera approvals and installations fall under state jurisdiction.

Council will also write to the EPA requesting an update on the current noise camera trials.

Mayor Edward McDougall said

"Combatting Hooning in Bayside has been one of our highest priorities for many years. Council's position has always been that this disruptive and law-breaking behaviour is totally unacceptable."
