Bayside in hard lockdown

As Bayside Council wakes up to stricter lockdown rules the Mayor, Councillor Joe Awada is calling on the Premier, Gladys Berejiklian to show compassion and restrict the hard lockdown to those suburbs of concern.

"The Premier should apply the same rules she used for Penrith Council," Mayor Joe Awada.

"I understand the need for a hard lock down in Banksia, Bexley and Rockdale after additional cases were reported in those suburbs.

"We need to get the virus under control and quickly. I support this. But not for the whole of the LGA.

"We are a unique community and many of our suburbs have natural boundaries, such as the airport. I urge the Premier to have a look at these and consider implementing the Penrith model," he said.

The Mayor also called on all residents, no matter which suburb they lived in, to do the right thing and follow the Health Orders.

"Bayside is now an area of concern, some suburbs more than others. But we are all in this together.

"So please if you live in Bayside get tested if you experience any symptoms. We will face tougher restrictions for longer if cases continue to rise," Mayor Joe Awada said.

"We are doing all we can to support our community, but we cannot do it without your help. Stay home, but if you must go out wear a mask.

"If you are eligible to get vaccinated please do so. A free AstraZeneca walk in vaccination hub is now operating in the Rockdale Town Hall. You just need some form of ID," he said.

Bayside Customer Service Centres and libraries remain closed. The call centre is taking calls during office hours and council services can be accessed online.

Essential services, such as waste collection, continue to operate as normal.
