We have outlined our concerns to the Victorian Government on the second phase of their consultation for the expanded Activity Centres Program.
The expanded program seeks to review existing planning controls in the core of each activity centre and within a 10-minute (approximately 800 metre) walkable catchment area surrounding the core, with the intention of enabling the delivery of more homes around jobs, services and public transport.
Four key precincts in Bayside have been identified by the Victorian Government for future housing growth and renewal as part of the expanded Activity Centre Program. This includes:
- North Brighton Station (Bay Street),
- Middle Brighton Station (Church Street)
- Hampton Station (Hampton Street),
- Sandringham Station (Sandringham Village).
The Victorian Government undertook their first phase of consultation on the expanded Activity Centres Program over May and June. You can read our submission for Phase 1 here: insert link.
The second phase of consultation, which produced more details on building heights and catchment areas in each Activity Centre, took place in September and October.
The key issues outlined in the Activity Centres Program phase 2 submission include:
- Lack of collaboration, meaningful engagement and transparency that has occurred in the process
- No strategic justification to allow for housing capacity significantly above the Bayside housing targets
- No supporting analysis to understand housing needs or essential infrastructure needs We expect the new planning controls will be place in early 2026.
- No proper technical evidence released
We're continuing to advocate to the Victorian Government on behalf of our community and raise awareness about the changes that are proposed to planning controls across Bayside.
We remain committed to maintaining transparency with our community and sharing all information and relevant feedback on the Program.
