Bayswater boozer busted

Police were left shaking their heads after a driver was busted at allegedly more than four times the alcohol limit in Bayswater on Sunday night, 26 December.

Police had set up a drug and alcohol testing site on Bayswater Road when the vehicle came to their attention about 6.15pm.

The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old Ferntree Gully man, was taken onto the booze bus where he returned an alleged positive evidential breath test of .223.

His vehicle was impounded for 30 days and his licence was immediately suspended

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.

This impound was part of Operation Roadwise, the state-wide road policing operation during the high-risk Christmas period.

Police targeted impaired driving, speed, distraction, and fatigue in high-risk areas throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Operation Roadwise ended at 11.59pm last night with 776 dangerous drivers detected drink and drug driving during the 10-day Christmas road safety blitz.
