The Tasmanian Government welcomes the announcement from the United States over the weekend that tariffs on Australian beef will be removed.
Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said this outcome comes after ongoing advocacy by the Tasmanian Government through the Australian Government.
"This is extremely positive news for Tasmania's world-class beef producers," Minister Barnett said.
"These producers have worked through a period of significant uncertainty in global markets. The decision provides confidence for our exporters, reinforces the strength of the Australia–US trading relationship, and recognises the high-quality, sustainably produced beef that Tasmania is renowned for.
"This announcement is particularly significant for Tasmania's beef sector, which exported almost $190 million of beef in 2022–23. The removal of U.S. tariffs strengthens our international competitiveness and supports the continuation of this export growth."
Tasmania's beef industry is a major contributor to regional jobs, investment and the state's broader agricultural economy.
"Eliminating these tariffs will help our producers remain competitive, expand their market share in the United States, and drive further value across our supply chain," Minister Barnett said.
"We will continue to work closely with industry to maximise the benefits of this development and ensure Tasmanian businesses are well positioned to seize new export opportunities.
"Tasmanian farmers and exporters deserve certainty, market access, and strong government support and this announcement is a welcome step forward."
