Belém Mission To 1.5: Help Shape Global Climate Action

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

Calls for submission for the Belém Mission to 1.5 are now open.

At COP30 in Belém, Brazil last year, countries recognised the need for urgent action to speed up greenhouse gas emissions reduction to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The Belém Mission to 1.5 aims to identify key opportunities to help drive global ambition, cooperation and investment to help achieve this.

As part of our role as President of Negotiations for COP31, Australia is working with Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Brazil to deliver the Belém Mission to 1.5 in 2026.

Over this year we'll work with UNFCCC Parties and stakeholders to identify ways to:

  • help countries put their national climate and adaptation plans into action
  • boost international cooperation on climate change
  • grow investment in climate action.

We are calling for submissions to inform these discussions and jointly shape the Belém Mission to 1.5, with a report to be released ahead of COP31 in Antalya in November.

Submissions can choose to focus on global, national, regional or local solutions.

Visit the UNFCCC website to learn more and lodge a submission.

Submission close 30 June 2026.
