Berwick Death Investigation: CCTV Footage Released

Homicide Squad detectives have released CCTV of a vehicle as part of their investigation into an incident where a man was fatally stabbed and dropped off at Casey Hospital earlier this year.

They are also appealing for public assistance to identify those who were in the vehicle at the time with the victim, in particular a second passenger.

About 7.30am on 26 March, a maroon Volvo sedan was driven into the ambulance emergency bay at Casey Hospital in Berwick.

The male driver of the car got out and called for help from nearby paramedics, before pulling an unconscious man from the car.

Paramedics and hospital staff began to treat the man and shortly after, the driver got back into the Volvo and sped off.

The passenger, later identified as 45-year-old Port Melbourne man Daniel Cockerill, passed away minutes later.

He had sustained a stab wound to his upper body.

A 40-year-old Port Melbourne man was subsequently arrested by police later that day, however he was released without charge.

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death and have released CCTV footage of the maroon Volvo in the hope someone can provide information about it's movements on the night.

Police are yet to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident which led to Daniel's death and are appealing for anyone who has information to come forward.

Investigators also believe there was a third person in the vehicle with Daniel and the driver.

They are keen to speak to anyone who may have information about the identity of this passenger.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
