Bilingurr bushfire arrest

As a result of an extensive investigation, Broome Detectives have charged a 41-year-old man they allege started a fire in bushland located between Gubinge Road and Kassim Street in Bilingurr.

On 10 August 2019, it is alleged the man set off fireworks in the area which caused the fire. The fire spread due to the wind and Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended and extinguished the fire.

On 21 September 2019, Broome Detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in Bilingurr and it is alleged they located and seized two large boxes containing 94 fireworks, including clusters of multiple fireworks.

The 41-year-old man from Bilingurr has been charged with:-

• Breach of Duty of a Person in Control of Ignition Source; and

• Unlicensed Possession of Dangerous Goods.

He is due to appear before the Broome Magistrates Court on 4 November 2019.
