The review will consider the operation and effectiveness of the Act, with particular attention on the protection and conservation of threatened species and threatened ecological communities.

There will be consultation with key stakeholders and opportunities for the broader public to have input into the review process. The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) will provide support to the review.

As stated by the EnvironmentMinister MatthewSwinbourn:

"This review is an important opportunity to ensure the State's biodiversity legislation remains robust, effective and capable of protecting our unique flora, fauna and ecosystems for generations to come.

"This builds on the Cook Government's commitment to protecting and restoring our land and oceans, such as our commitment to establish a new marine park spanning the entire Exmouth Gulf and $10 million towards our Healthy Oceans Program.

"I encourage stakeholders and community members to participate in the review process and further information can be found on DBCA's website."

As stated by Butler MLA Lorna Clarke:

"As Chair of the review panel, I am proud to lead this important review of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 to ensure it continues to provide strong and effective protections for Western Australia's unique biodiversity.
