Blacktown LGA Seeks Public Input on Place Name

The Geographical Names Board (GNB) is seeking community feedback on a proposal by Blacktown City Council to name a reserve in the suburb of Schofields as Galungara Park. Chair of the Geographical Names Board Narelle Underwood said Galungara is also name of the adjoining public school and is from the Dharug language. The reserve is 10 hectares in area and is located between Farmland Drive and Jerralong Drive in the suburb of Schofields. Galungara Park is named after the Grass Tree, which is an ancient tree from the Dreaming. It translates to 'the stem or the flower stalk' of the Grass Tree. GNB is seeking feedback to gauge community sentiment for the proposed name. Suggestions for alternative names is not being sought at this time. The closing date for submissions is 21 May 2023.
