Delivering More Than Just Books – Bland Shire Library's Home Library Service
Bland Shire Library is bringing the joy of reading directly to the doors of those who need it most through its free Home Library Service, a heartwarming initiative supporting residents who are unable to visit the library in person due to age or disability.
This valuable service ensures that community members can continue to enjoy access to books, magazines, and other library resources, all delivered with a friendly smile by dedicated library staff.
What makes this service truly special is the personalised care taken by library staff, who handpick reading materials based on each user's individual preferences. Whether it's mystery novels, biographies, or large-print editions, staff tailor each selection to suit the reader. If a requested title isn't on the shelf, they'll go the extra mile to order in special books to meet the need.
Recently, two long-time library users, Eileen Wilson and Helen Malligan, received their latest book bundles from staff member Heidi, highlighting the real difference this program makes in people's everyday lives. Their reactions speak volumes about the power of connection, independence, and the written word.
Bland Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brian Monaghan, praised the initiative, saying: "The Home Library Service is a fantastic example of local government meeting people where they are. It's about more than just books, it's about community, dignity, and staying connected. We're incredibly proud of the work our library team is doing."
The service is available to West Wyalong residents who are unable to visit the library due to mobility challenges, chronic illness, or disability.
