A new 40km/h speed zone is coming to Bluff Road, Sandringham.
The zone extends along Bluff Road between Cheltenham Road and Park Avenue, and covers Sandringham Hospital, Fairway Bayside Aged Care and Story House Early Learning Black Rock.
Council has been advocating to the State Government for the change since 2023.
The 40km/h limit operate from 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week. Outside of these times, a 60km/h speed limit will apply.
The changes are expected to improving safety for pedestrians crossing the road and make exiting the community facilities and driveways safer.
The Department of Transport works to install the electronic speed limit signs are expected to take up to three weeks depending on weather conditions. The works will start from mid-February, between 9am to 3pm, Monday to Friday.
Night works will also take place from Monday 16 February to Friday 20 February, between 8pm and 5am. High levels of noise are expected during this time.
During the works:
- Emergency vehicles will still be able to access to Sandringham Hospital at all times.
- Lane closures with traffic management will be in place to guide motorists through work areas.
- On-street parking restrictions will be in place while crews are installing signs.
- Footpaths will remain open with traffic controllers on-site to safely guide pedestrians through the area.
- A reduced speed limit will keep crews and road users safe.
