Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating an aggravated burglary in Sunshine North and subsequent petrol drive-off early this month.

A thief broke into a Cumberland Street home while the two occupants were asleep inside about 6.45am on Sunday 2 February.

The man has searched the property, stealing driver's licences, bank cards, house keys and car keys before taking off in the victim's 2007 grey BMW with registration AAA 373.

The following day, the offender attended a Ballarat Road service station in Maidstone and filled up the stolen BMW before leaving without paying about 7.45pm.

During the petrol drive-off the offender was wearing a black jacket with a red/white motif, navy blue tracksuit pants, black and white runners and a black baseball cap.

Investigators have released an image of a man who they believe can assist with their enquiries.
