The founders of anti-bullying organisation Dolly's Dream, Kate and Tick Everett support the Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education, Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie's announcement that all education ministers will consider a draft Code setting out principles for states and territories to consider when establishing their border crossing directions.
"This is an urgent issue for the thousands of young people in boarding schools who face uncertainty about being reunited with families in the upcoming school holidays," Mr and Mrs Everett said.
Senator McKenzie announced that the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee will also consider the matter.
"We know that the Isolated Children & Parents Association and the Australian Boarding School Association have been working hard with Senator McKenzie and many other politicians to get this to happen," Mrs Everett said.
"Many families, like ours, have little choice but to send their kids to boarding school to get the best education that they can. But we also know, only too well, that these times can also be very difficult. The last thing these young people need is the prospect of not being able to travel home - often to safe, isolated environments," Mr Everett said.
"For the sake of the 23,000 boarding students and their families, we hope this is urgently resolved."
