Body found in submerged vehicle at Merriwa

A man's body has been found in a submerged vehicle at Merriwa.

About 6am today (Wednesday 13 December 2023), emergency services were called to the Merriwa River, along the Golden Highway at Merriwa, following reports a car was submerged in the water.

A crime scene was established by police from Hunter Valley Police District, with officers working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following a search by police divers, a man's body was located in the vehicle; he is yet to be formally identified – however believed to be aged in his 30s.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
