Body identified as missing person, Gary Pearce

Forensic testing has confirmed a body found in a burnt-out vehicle in the state’s Central West this month was that of missing Unanderra man, Gary Pearce.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District initiated inquiries after Gary was reported missing, having been last seen at North Wollongong in late April this year.

About 3pm on Sunday 9 June 2019, a man’s body was found in a burnt-out car in bushland off Boorowa Road, Narrawa, about 35km north west of Crookwell.

It’s believed the car left the roadway, travelled through a paddock, rolled onto its roof and hit a tree before catching alight, possibly some weeks earlier.

Following inquiries, the body was today (Thursday 27 June 2019), identified as that of 21-year-old Gary Pearce.

Police would like to extend their gratitude to the media and public for their assistance during the search for Gary, and ask all to respect his family’s privacy.
