Body located - Jervis Bay

A body, believed to be that of a man swept off rocks whilst fishing at Jervis Bay last night, has been found.

About 7pm (Tuesday 2 April 2019), a 58-year-old man was fishing from a rock shelf near Steamers Beach with two friends, when he was washed into the ocean.

The man's friends notified emergency services and a large-scale search and rescue operation began; involving police from South Coast Police District and the Marine Area Command, assisted by the Royal Australian Navy, NSW Marine Rescue, Australian Federal Police, National Park Rangers and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Canberra.

Around 3.30pm today (Wednesday 3 April 2019), the body of a man, believed to be that of a 58-year-old man, was found in the water by NSW Police divers.

The body is yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
