Body of man located in floodwaters - Murrumbidgee 21 December

A body, believed to be that of a missing man, has been recovered from floodwater in the state's south-west.

The 89-year-old man was last known to be travelling from Gympie, Queensland, on Monday 31 October 2022, headed for South Australia via Victoria.

When he could not be contacted, officers attached to Riverina Police District were notified and commenced inquiries to locate him.

About 2.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 20 December 2022), emergency services received reports that a flooded vehicle had been sighted at Williams Crossing Road, Barmedman.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District, with assistance from NSW SES, retrieved the vehicle and located the body.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing man.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man's death continue and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
