The Carroll Labor Government respects your money.
That's why Labor is continuing to make commonsense decisions about where government spends.
More efficient customer service and less duplication
Victorians should get great service when they pick up the phone, without it costing as much as it is.
That's why the Labor Government will further consolidate contact centres from departments and agencies in locations across Victoria.
Service Victoria already functions as the call centre for Births, Deaths and Marriages (BDM), Consumer Affairs Victoria, Worker Screening, and emergency responses. Planning is underway to bring together call centres
This will include State Revenue Office, Homes Victoria, WorkSafe, TAC, Court Services Victoria, Fines Victoria, Public Transport Victoria, DEECA, the EPA, Parks Victoria and Energy Safe Victoria will be brought together.
This is estimated to save $15 million over the forward estimates.
Getting value on legal fees
We believe taxpayers should get value for money when government engages external legal expertise.
That's why the Government will cap barrister fees across Victorian public sector departments and agencies, aligning limits with comparable jurisdictions including New South Wales, Queensland and the Commonwealth.
This is estimated to save at least $8 million over the forward estimates.
Delivering solar more efficiently
Victorians know that rooftop solar means cheaper energy bills - and that's why Labor is making rooftop solar installations as easy and affordable as possible.
From 30 June 2027, VEU discounts will replace Solar Victoria rebates for rooftop solar PV.
In many cases, the value of these discounts will exceed the $1,400 rebate currently offered through Solar Homes - ensuring more Victorians remain able to take advantage of cheap renewables.
The Essential Services Commission (ESC) will oversee industry standards, quality assurance, and regulation in Victoria's rooftop solar industry.
This common-sense reform will reduce back-office duplication and save $60 million over the forward estimates.
Solar Victoria will continue to manage existing solar PV loans and administer efficient electric hot water rebates.
These measures build on the billions saved already, including on the SRL, consultants, executive roles and more.
As stated by Treasurer Colin Brooks
"Labor values your money."
"It makes sense to bring our call centres together, to cap what we pay for legal advice, and to deliver solar support through one program instead of two."
