As part of Defence's transition to an integrated and focused force, cyber warfare personnel will now have multiple career pathway opportunities within Defence.
The transition to a new skills-based pay structure will help Defence build a fit-for-purpose cyber warfare workforce, aiming to assist with retention and depth of knowledge, skills and experience.
Chief of Joint Capabilities, Lieutenant General Susan Coyle, AM, CSC, DSM, said cyber domain was a unique and technically challenging environment.
"Cyber Warfare Specialists and Cyber Warfare Officers are core to the conduct of cyberspace operations that detect and defeat cyberspace attacks against Defence networks and systems," Lieutenant General Coyle said.
"The need for Defence to attract and retain its share of an in-demand and growing workforce in Australia requires a new, multi-faceted approach to cyber warfare employment.
"The new Cyber Warfare Common Remuneration Framework will enable Cyber Warfare Specialists and Cyber Warfare Officers to be employed within a skills-based pay structure, better addressing retention and the development of deep technical skills required in the cyber domain.
"This will also open up new opportunities for those interested in Reserve roles and mid-career entry, where people who wish to serve their nation can leverage their industry experience."
