Boosted Regional Traineeship Program now open

  • Regional Traineeship Program now open to support skills development and enhance employment opportunities
  • Up to $37,000 per trainee is available to Community Resource Centres and eligible local government authorities
  • The McGowan Government's Regional Traineeship Program is now open for applications, encouraging people to stay and work in their local community.

Grant funding per trainee has increased this year to $37,000 per person and is available to Western Australian Community Resource Network (WACRN) Community Resource Centres and eligible local government authorities to support vocational training and subsidise the cost of employing a trainee in regional areas.

The grant is a one-off payment to assist in the development of trainees' skills and knowledge, based on local business and industry needs.

In the past two years, 109 grant recipients and their communities have benefitted from the program, with trainee placements throughout regional WA.

Eligible organisations will be invited by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development to lodge a grant application for the funding, with applications open for six weeks.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

"This program supports regional people to develop a career in their local community, while building capacity and opportunity in the regions.

"Last year's program saw 58 organisations employing trainees who studied courses ranging from digital media and technology to tourism, community work and business administration.

"We encourage CRCs and eligible local governments to work closely with regional businesses to make sure the program is delivering tangible outcomes for both trainees and their employers.
