Strengthening the capacity of maritime law enforcement was discussed during a five-day workshop (28 March- 1 April) in Mahé, Seychelles. Maritime administrations looked at how to put in place a legal framework to give full effect to the IMO instruments dealing with maritime security.
The workshop included a visit to the port of Victoria, to observe the physical security measures applied in the port in - line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code requirements. The ISPS Code sets measures designed to strengthen the security of ships and port facilities.
Participants including 22 officials from various agencies including Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority (SMSA), Seychelles Coast guard, Seychelles Port Authority. Officials from the fellow implementing partner United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) also attended the event.
