Boosting Regional Security via Global Partnership

Five officers from the State Border Service (SBS) of the Kyrgyz Republic have successfully completed an intensive EOD Level 2 training course held from 23 March to 10 April 2026 at the Regional Explosive Hazards Training Centre in Tajikistan, Chimteppa.

This critical security initiative was funded with assistance from the UK government. The UK's contribution highlights a continued commitment to regional stability and the professional development of security forces in Central Asia.

The 15-day program transitioned participants from basic identification to advanced "render-safe" procedures and the disposal of complex ordnance, including landmines, rockets, and guided missiles. Utilizing specialized equipment like Hook and Line kits and CEIA detectors, the officers gained the expertise required to assess, transport, and destroy multiple explosive items simultaneously.

The training was a collaborative effort between the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe. By utilizing regional facilities in Tajikistan, the program ensured high-quality, standardized instruction that meets international safety benchmarks.

This Level 2 certification is a vital milestone toward the upcoming EOD Level 3 phase, which will qualify SBS officers to lead major disposal operations. Future on-site training along the Tajik-Afghan border, in cooperation with the FSD, will further apply these skills in live operational environments, significantly strengthening the SBS's capacity to manage explosive threats independently.
