Boosting Skills for Domestic Violence Workers

New workforce entity will strengthen frontline responses to family and domestic violence.

The State Government has awarded a contract to deliver a new family and domestic violence (FDV) Workforce Entity, which will deliver a range of training and professional development opportunities to FDV workers across the State.

A partnership comprising the Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing, Stopping Family Violence, Council of Aboriginal Services WA, Aboriginal Health Council WA, Community Skills WA, Professor Donna Chung and WorkUP was awarded the contract following a comprehensive tender process.

Training delivered by the entity will build upon FDV workers' capabilities and support them to deliver safety-focused and culturally appropriate responses to victim-survivors and perpetrators.

Widespread sector consultation has been a key aspect of the entity's development, with peak bodies, specialist family and domestic violence service providers, and Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations all engaged to develop the entity's operating model.

To support the new entity, a Workforce Capability Framework has been developed to guide people, organisations and agencies across all sectors to understand their roles in responding to family and domestic violence. The framework will ensure the workforce is equipped with the skills and knowledge to respond to perpetrators and support victim-survivors.

The need for a dedicated family and domestic violence workforce entity was identified in the Strengthening Responses to Family and Domestic Violence: System Reform Plan 2024 to 2029 , which aims to build a collaborative, connected and organised service system that prioritises victim-survivor safety and re-establishment.
